PROBLEM SUMMARY

Boston’s transportation system is a major source of greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. As the 4th most congested city in the U.S., drivers lose an average of 79 hours and $1,414 annually due to traffic delays (INRIX, 2024). This affects not only mobility and productivity but also overall quality of life.

Public transit in Boston also faces challenges, with only 24% of residents consider it reliable. This highlights persistent issues with accessibility and trust in the system.

Our project is focused on creating more sustainable, efficient, and equitable transportation in Boston, to address environmental impacts, reduce congestion, and improve access across communities.

KEY STAKEHOLDERS

The success of the multimodal mobility app relies on collaboration between three key stakeholder groups:

1. Investors:
   • Provide funding and help scale the solution.
   • Focus on growth metrics (e.g., transit ridership, job creation, ROI).
2. Ministry of Transport:
   • Responsible for policy support and infrastructure alignment.
   • Interested in equity and sustainability metrics such as public perception, population reach, budget efficiency, and emission reductions.
3. Drivers:
   • A major behavioral group impacted by traffic and efficiency changes.
   • Targeted through efficiency impact, aiming to reduce average commute times by 20–30% (e.g., cutting 30-minute trips to 21–24 minutes)
