Water is a limited resource, and our water supply is changing due to climate change and a growing population. Understanding this critical topic and how it will strongly affect our lives, how can we engage the community to reduce their water consumption while educating the people to preserve and protect water sustainably?
The population of Calgary is climbing. The total population in the city of Calgary is estimated to be 1,306,700 persons in 2020 1[] and this population is expected to rise by 35% in less than 15 years 2[]. The City of Calgary is facing some significant challenges in the growing demand for water, resulting from rapid population and economic growth. Calgary sources water for usage by Calgarians from the Elbow and Bow rivers and currently withdraws about 46 per cent of The City’s total annual allotment. However, projections suggest sufficient water may not be available should the City need to access the unused portion of its allotment in the future 3[].
