Summary

Problem Summary

Due to the climate and geographic characteristics of The York Landing Region (sometimes referred to as York Factory), it is extremely difficult for outsiders to provide assistance to local residents. Also, the absence of a developed transportation system resulted in an inconsistent supply of resources, making it burdensome for communities and the Government.

Solution Summary

A project with various phases will be implemented.

In the short run, it is necessary to enhance the communities’ current transportation system. Once that has been achieved, the focus will then be switched to education and infrastructure development, accomplishing self-sustainability in the long run.

Supporting Information

• York Landing is a 30 km ferry boat ride to Split Lake, the community on the other side of the lake.
• There are no roads in the summer or winter that people of York Landing can use to reach communities on the other side of the lake.
• Access to Split Lake is essential as it has a connecting highway to Thompson. Thompson is a bigger community with more resources and roads to make these shipments.
• Residents of York Landing used the ferry to not only bring in supplies but also travel to the other towns in the summer.
